Pirmoji savanorystė už Lietuvos ribų – Kenijoje

I went away on my second volunteering mission in Africa in January 2017. But that time I managed to gather a much larger team of doctors than in 2015.

When I was visiting Kenya for the first time, I was writing a blog in social network so I did not have to find the accompanying doctors by myself when I was preparing for the second mission.

That time our team of fourteen dentists, assistants, dental technicians went to the same location as previous year – to Kyamwei village in Kenya.

Luckily, before leaving we managed to receive charity and gave away a thousand of toothbrushes and toothpastes for the children at schools, at the same time educating them how to brush their teeth.

Most of older residents of the villages have only every second teeth left. So I hope the new generation will learn how to look after their teeth. Although I got the impression that missing teeth is not the end of the world for them. Before the basic life needs are satisfied, they do not rack their brains about oral aesthetics.

Would I go volunteering abroad for the third time? Without a doubt! I am also very happy that good deeds are contagious. After this mission my uncle Dr. Vytautas Lipnickas, who is an abdominal surgeon, was so inspired by the idea that he went away on a mission to Africa as well.
